LOUISIANA FISHING RECOVERY - BACK TO THE DOCK PROGRAM
Both Hurricanes Katrina and Rita had a major impact on the coastal fishing industry in Louisiana. Due to the damage that these storms caused, assistance was made possible through a public-private partnership with the Louisiana Fishing Community Recovery Coalition and Shell Oil Company. IMCAL, along with the South Central Planning and Development Commission, helped
coordinate applications for a $ 5,000 grant for area fishermen that qualified for this
assistance. The assistance would allow for the repair of boats and equipment, replace
equipment, and provide working capital. With each application, an applicant had to
certify their loss and provide copies of their vessel license, proof of ownership,
commercial fishing license, and copy of their federal income tax return. One of the
applicants for this award was Roger Broussard of Lake Charles. Shown in this picture
receiving a $5,000 grant check is Mr. Brossard from IMCAL’s Executive Director,
James Porter.
